Johan @ Eddy Luaran

Johan @ Eddy Luaran (Dr.) is from Tuaran, Sabah. He obtained his first degree in Chemical Engineering from University Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2001. Realizing his niche in educating others, he opted to join the Diploma in Education program offered by the Teacher’s Training College in Keningau. Upon successful completion, he was posted to SMK Pinawatai, Kudat where he picked up vast experiences as a teacher for 4 years. Albeit such short service, his passion to educate others has earned him The Excellent Teacher Award by The Education Department of Kota Marudu, Sabah in 2005. He was also able to complete his Masters in Educational Technology at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2006 during his service as a teacher. Desiring to improve learning process, he invented computer software to optimize learning productivity. This initiative has earned him his doctorate degree in educational technology in the year 2010.  The invented software (WEDPI Learning Package) was also presented and won a Bronze medal in the Invention, Innovation and Design (IID) Competition 2010 which saw participations from universities nationwide.

He is now the Head of Research, Innovation and Commercialization of i-Learn Centre, UiTM which is a centre that oversees the implementation of blended learning in the university. As an active researcher, he has published numerous indexed papers, became editor for books and presented in both international and local conferences focusing on educational technology. He also extended his expertise by authoring 12 e-learning books which includes open educational resources, Web 2.0 tools and Flipped Classroom.  His effort and expertise in the area of educational technology has been recognized by the university in which he outwit 14 other candidates from UiTM nationwide and was the recipient for 2014 UiTM e-Learning Award. Dr. Johan is also a member of International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT).
